Measure an irregular room without double-counting

Start with a sketch, then turn the floor into simple rectangles.

Draw before entering numbers

Sketch the outside edges, doors, fixed units and alcoves. Divide the floor into rectangles that do not overlap. For an L-shaped room, a 4 × 3 m main section and a 2 × 1.5 m alcove give 12 + 3 = 15 m². Enter those sections separately; do not also enter their enclosing rectangle.

Keep one unit system

Convert all lengths before entering them. 50 cm is 0.5 m, not 50 m. In imperial mode, 6 feet 6 inches is 6.5 feet, not 6.6 feet. Switching units converts current dimensions and pack coverage together, but supplier coverage may be rounded on the box. Recheck it before buying.

Decide what stays uncovered

A fixed cabinet may be excluded if the flooring will not go underneath it. This tool accepts positive rectangles, not negative deduction rows. Divide the uncovered floor into positive sections, or calculate the net area separately. Confirm with the installer which fixed areas should be included.

Add waste once

Measure the real floor first, then use the waste field for cutting losses. Increasing every dimension and also adding waste can double-count the allowance. Record measurements separately from purchasing assumptions so another person can reproduce the estimate. Before ordering, confirm the product, batch and unopened-pack return policy.
